Facebook Marketplace notifications not working
Not getting Marketplace alerts or messages? Check these iPhone, Android and Facebook settings in order, and what to try if saved-search alerts still fail.
The five-minute checklist
Work down this table first. Each row is a setting that, on its own, can stop Facebook’s notifications reaching you.
| Check | iPhone | Android |
|---|---|---|
| The phone lets Facebook notify you | Settings > Notifications > Facebook > Allow Notifications | Settings > Notifications > App notifications > Facebook |
| Nothing is silencing Facebook | Settings > Focus > each Focus > Apps | Settings > Modes > each mode > Notification filters > Apps |
| Battery saving isn’t holding it back | Low Power Mode off while testing; Background App Refresh on | Facebook’s App battery usage not set to Restricted; on Samsung, not a sleeping app |
| Marketplace’s own switches are on | Menu > Marketplace > Marketplace profile > Settings > Notifications | Same path |
| Facebook’s push settings | Menu > Settings & privacy > Settings > Notifications | Same path |
| The app is current | Update Facebook, then restart the phone | Update Facebook, then restart the phone |
These labels come from Apple, Google, Samsung and Facebook help pages in September 2026. They can differ with your phone model, software version and Facebook app version.
Is it message notifications or new-listing alerts?
People use “Marketplace notifications” for two different things, and they’re switched on in different places.
- New-listing alerts come from saved searches: you saved a search, and Facebook tells you when something new matches. They live in Marketplace’s notification settings, where saved searches is one of the categories.
- Message notifications are chats with a buyer or seller. Facebook says you can read them in your Marketplace inbox and in Messenger. If you use Messenger, its settings apply too: from Chats, tap your profile picture, then Notifications and sounds, and make sure Do Not Disturb is off. A single chat can also be muted: swipe left on it and tap More to check.
If message notifications arrive but listing alerts don’t, your phone is letting Facebook through. Skip to Facebook’s own settings and the saved search itself.
iPhone checklist
- Allow notifications. Open Settings > Notifications > Facebook. Turn on Allow Notifications, and under Alerts choose where they appear: Lock Screen, Notification Centre and Banners.
- Choose immediate delivery. If you use Scheduled Summary, set Facebook’s Notification Delivery to Immediate Delivery. Otherwise its notifications wait for your summary time. If Facebook offers Time Sensitive Notifications, turn that on too.
- Check every Focus. Apple says a Focus delays notifications to prevent interruptions. Go to Settings > Focus, open each Focus you use (Do Not Disturb, Sleep, Work and so on), tap Apps (or Choose Apps), and add Facebook under Allow Notifications From, or remove it from Silence Notifications From. If alerts go missing overnight, check Sleep first.
- Rule out Low Power Mode. Apple lists what it turns off, including Background App Refresh, email fetch and automatic downloads. Turn it off while you test: Settings > Battery (on iPhone 15 and later, Settings > Battery > Power Mode). On phones with Adaptive Power turned on, Apple says Low Power Mode switches itself on below 20% battery, so it may be on without you noticing.
- Turn on Background App Refresh. Apple says it lets suspended apps check for new content. Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh, make sure it’s on, and check Facebook’s switch in the list.
- Leave Facebook in the background. Apple warns that an app you quit from the app switcher might not be able to run or check for new content until you open it again.
- Update and restart. Facebook’s own troubleshooting steps are to update the app, check your Wi-Fi or mobile data, close and reopen the app, and restart the phone.
Android checklist
Android menus vary by maker. These are Google’s labels for Pixel phones, with notes for Samsung Galaxy phones.
- Allow notifications. Open Settings > Notifications > App notifications, choose Facebook and turn notifications on. Then check Facebook’s notification categories are set to alert you. On some phones, Google explains, a notification can be Alerting or Silent, and a silent one makes no sound or vibration and only shows when you swipe down. A shortcut: touch and hold a Facebook notification, then tap the settings icon.
- Check Do Not Disturb and other modes. Open Settings > Modes, then Do Not Disturb (and Bedtime, Driving or any mode you made). Under Notification filters, tap Apps and allow Facebook.
- Loosen battery limits for Facebook. On a Pixel, go to Settings > Apps > See all apps > Facebook > App battery usage > Allow background usage and choose Optimized or Unrestricted, not Restricted. Google notes that Adaptive Battery can delay notifications to stretch battery life.
- On a Samsung Galaxy, check sleeping apps. Go to Settings > Battery and device care > Battery > Background usage limits (the path can differ on newer software). Make sure Facebook isn’t in Sleeping apps or Deep sleeping apps; Samsung says deep sleeping apps never run in the background. You can add Facebook to Never sleeping apps. If you rarely open Facebook, also look at Put unused apps to sleep, which automatically puts apps you haven’t used for a while to sleep.
- Update and restart. Update Facebook from Google Play, close and reopen it, and restart the phone.
Facebook’s own notification settings
These apply on both phones.
- Marketplace’s switches. Tap Menu, then Marketplace, your Marketplace profile, Settings and Notifications. Tap the saved searches category and turn its toggle on. Blue means on and grey means off.
- Facebook’s push settings. Tap Menu, then Settings & privacy, Settings, and Notifications under Preferences. This is where you choose how Facebook notifies you and about what, so check push notifications are allowed for Marketplace.
- Recheck after an app update. Facebook’s help notes that an update can change your push notification settings.
- On a computer, click your profile picture, then Settings and privacy, Settings, Notifications and Marketplace.
- Re-create the saved search. Delete the old one and save it again. Our saved searches guide covers where to find it and what to do if it won’t delete.
Why can saved-search alerts still be patchy?
Even with every switch right, some things are outside your phone’s control.
- Facebook doesn’t publish the timing. Nowhere in Facebook’s help centre does it say how soon after a listing appears a saved-search alert is sent.
- New listings take a few minutes to reach search. In our measurements, Facebook keeps a new listing out of public search for about six to seven minutes after it’s posted, for everyone. Any alert built on search starts after that.
- An alert only matches what search matches. Marketplace search is loose, so a vague search brings near-misses and a very narrow one can skip listings worded differently. Our search tips show what we found when we tested it.
- Not every feature reaches every account. Facebook’s troubleshooting page says something may not work because a feature isn’t available to everyone yet.
- Other people see it too. In Facebook’s own forums, users report saved-search alerts that stopped arriving despite every setting being on.
If nothing here works, report it to Facebook: in the app, shake your phone and follow the prompts; on a computer, go to Help & Support and choose Report a problem.
When a separate alert app makes sense
If a search matters to you, such as a particular car, a phone model at the right price, or anything across a wide area, a dedicated alert app takes the job off Facebook’s notification system. It also lets you keep Facebook muted without losing your alerts. Our guide to Marketplace alerts explains how these apps work, and how to choose one lists the questions to ask.

Questions people ask
Why am I not getting Facebook Marketplace notifications?
Start with the settings. Facebook may not be allowed to notify you, a Focus or Do Not Disturb mode may be silencing it, battery saving may be restricting it, or the saved searches switch in Marketplace settings may be off. Work through the checklist at the top of this page in order.
Why do I get Marketplace messages but no new-listing alerts?
They are separate systems. Messages from buyers and sellers are chats that also reach Messenger, while new-listing alerts come from saved searches and have their own switch in Marketplace's notification settings. If messages arrive, your phone settings are probably fine, so check Marketplace's settings and the saved search itself.
Does Low Power Mode stop Facebook notifications?
Apple's list of what Low Power Mode turns off includes Background App Refresh and email fetch, but not notifications. Turning it off while you test simply rules it out.
Should I swipe Facebook closed to save battery?
Not if you want its alerts. Apple says an app you quit from the app switcher might not be able to run or check for new content until you open it again.
Can I get Marketplace alerts without Facebook notifications?
Yes. A dedicated alert app sends notifications from its own app, so you can keep Facebook muted. See how to choose a Marketplace alert app.
